The Retreat goes Japanese PDF Print E-mail

japanese_poster.gifThe Retreat is proud to be the first in Cheltenham to serve Kirin Ichiban Japanese beer, and to celebrate we are going Japanese on Thursday 20th March.

This distinctive beer, with its very mild, pure and smooth taste, caused a sensational boom when launched in Japan, subsequently becoming the third best selling brand there amongst Japanese beers.

In 1993 responding to requests from enthusiastic customers, Charles Wells Ltd started to produce Kirin Ichiban in the UK. Since then, like Kirin beer, Kirin Ichiban has attracted a lot of customers in Europe with its unique taste.

So why not come along to The Retreat and give it a try!

The Retreat Cheltenham celebrates 25 year anniversary PDF Print E-mail
restaurant_1.jpgThe Retreat wine bar in Cheltenham will be celebrating its 25th anniversary this December, with a week-long line-up of events scheduled for the occasion.
Punters old and new will be flocking to The Retreat in Cheltenham for the week-long schedule of events.

It was a staggering 25 years ago that The Retreat – one of Cheltenham’s most popular wine bars – swung open its doors for the first time, as London couple Mike and Lella Dey kept their fingers firmly crossed the new venture would cut it with the town’s pub goers.

Setting out to attract a varied clientele of all ages, featuring high ceilings and wooden floors akin to trendy haunts in the capital, and boasting deep red walls which left passers-by wondering if the building had been taken over by communists – The Retreat was certainly a break from the norm locals were used to.

Retreat To Meet Old Pals Online PDF Print E-mail
A Suffolks nightspot has set up a website for regulars past and present to reunite. The Retreat in Suffolk Parade has established www.retreat25.co.uk , a networking site, where people can exchange stories, photos and information.

The site was launched yesterday on the 25th anniversary of the bar's opening.

By January 1, owner Mike Dey hopes 10,000 people will have signed up.

The inspiration for the site came after his children told him there were already pages on global networking site Facebook dedicated to The Retreat, with more than 2,000 members.

He said: "With the 25th anniversary approaching and as our clients are now spread all over the world, we wanted to create something that would bring everyone back together."

The bar has become a Cheltenham mainstay since opening in December 1982, attracting customers including Prince Harry and Chelsey Davey.

Mr Dey said: "Our focus was on growing what has become one of the strongest networks of friends and acquaintances of any bar we know.

"This makes us better placed than most to extend this sense of family into the online sphere.

"Many of our regulars have moved to Australia, London and around the world over the years but never forget their Retreat years.

"We're giving them an opportunity to remember and connect with old friends."

Cheltenham pub launches online community PDF Print E-mail

Retreat celebrates birthday with ambitious online plan

A pub toasting its 25th anniversary has celebrated by launching an online community for its customers.

The Retreat Wine Bar in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire is commemorating a quarter of a century in the business by investing in a state-of-the-art website which will allow regulars to interact in dozens of ways.

Software programmers have spent four months developing a sophisticated website for the bar where patrons can meet old friends, exchange pictures, gossip and arrange events amongst themselves.

Owner Mike Dey was inspired to set up the new site when his children told him about an appreciation group for the pub on Facebook with over 500 members. He said: “Many of our regulars have moved to Australia, London and around the world over the years but never forget their Retreat years. We are now giving them an opportunity to remember and connect with their old friends.

“At the same time, we are giving the new Facebook savvy generation their natural environment to exchange gossip, pictures and news”

The new website can be found at www.retreat25.co.uk
